Decking & Coping.

The deck and coping frame the pool and carry every footstep around it, so we design and build them as part of the project. We install custom decking, coping, cool decking and overlays across Rock Hill and the surrounding towns.

Why It Matters

The Frame Around the Water.

Pool decking in Rock Hill, SC has a hard job. It has to stay comfortable under bare feet through a Carolina summer, shed water away from the pool, stand up to chemicals and foot traffic, and look right next to the house. When it is an afterthought, the pool can look unfinished no matter how well the pool itself was built.

That is why we treat the deck and coping as part of the design, not a separate project. The shape of the deck, where the seating and lounge chairs go, how the water drains and how the coping meets the pool are settled on paper with the pool layout. The same crew builds both, so the edges line up and the finished backyard reads as one piece.

Decking is also where much of a backyard's character comes from. A generous deck for entertaining, a narrow modern border or a mix of materials can make the same pool feel completely different.

Coping

Where the Pool Meets the Deck.

Coping is the cap that runs along the top edge of the pool wall. It protects the structure, gives swimmers a firm edge to hold, directs splash water away from the pool and creates the visual line that frames the water. Getting it right matters both for how the pool performs and for how it looks.

Pool coping installation is included in our mid range packages and planned into every custom design, and we help you choose a profile and material that suits the pool type and the style of the house. A clean, square edge suits a modern design, while a rounded edge feels softer and more traditional. The coping also has to work with the interior finish, the tile line and the decking color, so we choose them together.

On fiberglass pools, the coping is installed after the shell is set and backfilled. On vinyl liner pools, it works with the track that holds the liner. On shotcrete pools, it is set on the finished structure before the interior finish goes on. In each case, careful installation is what keeps the edge level and the joints tight for years.

Decking and Overlays

Cooler Underfoot, Built to Last.

Cool decking is a surface finish designed to stay noticeably cooler to the touch than standard concrete in direct sun, which makes a real difference on a South Carolina afternoon. It also adds texture for better footing around the water. For many homeowners, it is the single most appreciated choice in the whole project.

For existing pools, a cool deck overlay or other concrete overlay can renew a tired, stained or cracked surface without tearing out the whole deck. Pool deck resurfacing of this kind can refresh the look of the backyard and improve comfort underfoot, provided the concrete underneath is sound. We assess the existing deck and tell you plainly whether an overlay will last or whether replacement is the better investment.

On new builds, the amount of decking is one of the biggest variables in cost. As a guide, our mid range fiberglass packages include roughly 600 to 800 square feet of decking with coping, while fully custom projects include custom decking designed around the whole backyard. Your proposal shows the area and finish so you can adjust it to fit your plans.

Questions

Before You Start.

What is cool decking?

Cool decking is a surface finish applied over a concrete pool deck that is designed to stay cooler to the touch than standard concrete in direct sunlight. It also adds texture for better footing when the deck is wet. On a hot South Carolina afternoon, it makes the area around the pool far more comfortable for bare feet, which is why so many homeowners choose it.

Can you resurface my existing pool deck?

Often, yes. If the concrete underneath is structurally sound, an overlay can cover stains, wear and surface cracks and give the deck a fresh finish, including a cool deck surface. If the concrete has shifted or is badly cracked, an overlay will not hold up, and replacement is the better choice. We assess the deck and give you an honest recommendation.

Is decking included in a pool build?

It depends on the package. Our starter fiberglass projects cover the pool, equipment, plumbing and the set and backfill, with decking added as you choose. Our mid range packages typically include roughly 600 to 800 square feet of decking and coping, and fully custom projects include custom decking designed around the backyard. Every proposal shows exactly what is included.

What is pool coping?

Coping is the cap along the top edge of the pool wall, where the pool meets the deck. It protects the structure, gives swimmers a firm edge to hold, directs splash water away from the pool and frames the water visually. We help you choose a profile and material that suits your pool type, the interior finish and the style of the house.

Other Ways to Build.

Decking and coping finish every pool we build. See the pool types they surround. Our custom pools overview explains how we approach every project.

  • A fiberglass pool is the fastest way to a finished inground pool, because the shell arrives ready and goes in once the ground is dug.

  • A vinyl liner pool is the most budget flexible way to a full size, custom shaped inground pool.

  • A shotcrete pool is formed by hand on your property, so its shape, depth and features answer to your yard and nothing else.

  • A spa adds year round warmth to a backyard, whether it spills into a new pool, stands alone or arrives as a hot tub. We design and install all three around Rock Hill and Charlotte.

  • Tanning ledges, waterfalls, scuppers, bubblers, LED laminars and lighting turn a pool into the place everyone gathers.
