Fiberglass Vinyl Shotcrete

Why Shotcrete

No Mold, No Limits.

Shotcrete pools in Rock Hill, SC are the choice when a standard shell will not do. Instead of setting a prefabricated pool into the ground, we shape the steel and concrete structure on site, which lets the pool follow a curving property line, step down a slope, wrap around an existing patio or echo the lines of the house. Shotcrete and gunite are two methods of spraying concrete into that structure; both produce the same kind of fully custom pool.

That freedom extends to everything inside the pool. Integrated spas, tanning ledges, custom steps and benches, water features and lighting are all built into the structure rather than added on, so the finished pool reads as one piece. Whether you picture a clean modern rectangle, a natural freeform or a complete resort style backyard with an attached spa, the design starts from a blank page.

Custom concrete pool construction takes longer than a fiberglass install because the structure needs time to cure and the interior finish is applied by hand. In exchange, you get a pool designed around your property, built to stand up to years of heavy use.

  • Any shape, size and depth
  • Spas and ledges built into the structure
  • Designed around slopes and lot lines
  • Premium Pebble Tec interior finishes

Finishes

The Color of the Water.

The interior finish decides how a shotcrete pool looks and feels, and it is one of the most enjoyable choices in the project. We finish our pools with Pebble Tec surfaces, which are known for their durability and the depth of color they give the water. The same finish can look quite different in the shallow end than in the deep end, so we help you choose with the whole pool in mind.

Within the PebbleSheen range, a few colors come up again and again on our projects: Turtle Bay, Blue Surf, Aqua Blue, Blue Granite and Slate Blue. Pebble Tec's own water color tool lets you pick the shade of water you want and see which finishes produce it at different depths, which is a useful place to start before we meet.

Finish choice also ties into the coping, tile line and decking. We look at them together so the pool, the edge and the surrounding hardscape work as one palette rather than three separate decisions.

The Process

How a Custom Pool Is Built.

A shotcrete project starts with a careful look at the property: grade, soil, drainage, access, setbacks and neighborhood guidelines. From there we design the pool and everything around it, and you receive an itemized proposal with a realistic schedule. This is the stage to settle the spa, the ledge, the features and the lighting, because they become part of the structure.

On site, the crew excavates, sets the steel and plumbing, and applies the shotcrete or gunite to form the shell. After the structure cures, the tile, coping and interior finish go on, followed by the equipment, decking and start up. As a gunite pool builder, we manage each stage ourselves, so you are not coordinating separate trades along the way.

Because these pools have the most moving parts, they also carry the highest starting cost of our builds. Our fully custom projects, which can include a pool and spa combination, custom decking, water features and a complete backyard design, typically start around $90,000, and the final figure depends on your site and the design you choose.

Features

Built Into the Structure.

With shotcrete, features are part of the pool, not attachments. These three are the most requested.

Questions

Before You Start.

What is the difference between shotcrete and gunite?

Both are ways of spraying concrete into a steel reinforced structure to form a custom pool. Shotcrete arrives already mixed with water, while gunite is mixed with water at the nozzle as it is applied. The finished pool is the same kind of fully custom concrete pool either way, and we will explain which method suits your project during the design stage.

How long does a shotcrete pool take to build?

Shotcrete pools take longer than fiberglass because the structure has to cure before the tile, coping and interior finish are applied, and the finish work is done by hand. The schedule also depends on the size of the pool, the features, the site and the weather. You receive a realistic timeline with your proposal, and we keep you updated throughout.

Can a shotcrete pool be built on a sloped yard?

Yes. This is one of the main reasons homeowners choose shotcrete. Because the pool is formed on site, it can be designed around a slope, a lake view, an existing patio or an awkward lot line. Sloped sites may need retaining walls or extra grading, which we identify during the site visit and include in the proposal so nothing comes as a surprise.

What does a custom shotcrete pool cost?

Shotcrete pools carry the highest starting cost of our builds because every part is formed and finished on site. Our fully custom projects, which may include a spa, custom decking, water features and a complete backyard design, typically start around $90,000. The final figure depends on the size, the site and the features you choose, and your proposal itemizes every part.

Which Pebble Tec finish should I choose?

Start with the color of water you want, then look at how each finish reads in shallow and deep water. Popular choices on our projects include Turtle Bay, Blue Surf, Aqua Blue, Blue Granite and Slate Blue from the PebbleSheen range. We help you compare them during the design conversation and match the finish to the coping, tile and decking.

Compare

Other Ways to Build.

If a faster build or a lower starting cost matters more than unlimited shape, compare shotcrete with our other pools. Our custom pools overview explains how we approach every project.

  • A fiberglass pool is the fastest way to a finished inground pool, because the shell arrives ready and goes in once the ground is dug.

  • A vinyl liner pool is the most budget flexible way to a full size, custom shaped inground pool.

  • A spa adds year round warmth to a backyard, whether it spills into a new pool, stands alone or arrives as a hot tub. We design and install all three around Rock Hill and Charlotte.

  • Tanning ledges, waterfalls, scuppers, bubblers, LED laminars and lighting turn a pool into the place everyone gathers.

  • The deck and coping frame the pool and carry every footstep around it, so we design and build them as part of the project.
